Portable toilets are vital on any construction site. As well as deciding how many and what types to hire, you will also need to think about where to position them. Here are some tips on where to site your portable toilets.

Convenient

The first rule is to put them where they are needed. You are hiring toilets for the convenience of your workforce. There is therefore no point placing them so far away from the work that it will be difficult to get to them. A long walk to the portable toilets is a waste of everyone's time. Instead, they should be placed as near as possible to where the employees are actually working. This will keep downtime to a minimum and ensure that your workers can always access the toilets when they are needed.

Safe

Secondly, make sure that the toilets are positioned in a safe place. The ground on which they are sited should be stable and level. There should be no nearby obstructions, and it should be possible to reach them without passing through any hazardous areas. You should also try to avoid placing them anywhere that is too noisy or where there may be fumes from the construction. Safety is always an important consideration on construction sites, and setting up portable toilets should be no exception.

Non-disruptive

Thirdly, make sure that the toilets themselves are not causing an obstruction. Construction sites are busy and complex places, with a lot of workers and machinery. It will be disruptive and unsafe if people have to manoeuvre around the portable toilets in order to carry out their work. The toilets should be near the work, but not in the way.

Accessible

Finally, keep in mind that the toilets will have to be delivered and collected. If they are to be there for any period of time, they will also have to be emptied. This means that there will need to be vehicular access to the place where they are being set up. You may also want to move the toilets during the construction project as the work itself changes. Find out how large the delivery vehicle will be, and make sure there is room for it to enter and leave the site safely.

Well-placed toilets are a huge convenience to any workforce. If you have any concerns about where to place them on your site, just talk to your hire company who will be happy to advise you.
